Twilight

by Theresa Spargo Neumann, New Zealand

Wind-blown, sprawling beaches
strewn with driftwood interwoven with picnic wrappings
castoff containers
and sharp shards of beer-bottle green glass

Discarded plastic bags
dancing amongst the waves
glistening with a jellyfish's allure
for creatures of the sea and sky to absorb

Particles caught in the setting sun
streaking orange flames across the sky
on an unseasonably warm evening
beside a too-tepid sea
