A Planet-Shaped Vase

by Bartholomew Barker, USA

On a no school snow day
playing ball in the house
I broke a fancy vase

Instead of attempting repair
with cartoon cow glue
I found my father's hammer

Smashed the shards
enjoying the crack crack crack
ceramic dust in my nose

Just like humanity
I could've restored
the delicate beauty

But I chose the thrill of destruction
over my grandchildren's survival
