Natural disasters are on the rise. Some messes are unrepairable. We the people demand to know: Who can we sue for damages? God was put on trial but witnesses were unreliable and the courthouse burned in a multi-state forest fire. When the Devil took the stand the evidence on him was sizable but his lawyer argued Free Will and the judge declared a mistrial. The prosecutor, seeking a scape goat, cited fracking induced earthquakes and carbon emissions leading to climate change, then charged humanity with crimes against itself. Upon deliberation, the jury decided all our actions were justifiable for our comfort and convenience. Future generations can pay for cleanup.
And sadly the future generations have a mess to deal with. This is a perfect poem.
